Public outdoor skating is open in Smiths Falls, Director of Community Services Art Manhire informed the Committee of the Whole on Monday night. The Gerry Lowe Memorial Sens Rink of Dreams opened on Friday for public skating. Councillor Lorraine Allen was one of the season’s first skaters, introducing her grandchild to the ice for the first time.
Manhire noted that sports are restricted under the current stay-at-home orders; hockey and other games are prohibited, but skating for exercise is encouraged.
“We are asking people to use it for public skating only; we will continue as long as we can function with that.” The rink will remain open as long as weather and regulations permit.
Masks are required at all times, both on and off the ice, and the rink has a maximum capacity of 25 people to allow for social distancing.
The outdoor Rink of Dreams is located at 150 Elmsley Street, and is open from 8am-8pm daily.
