During Perth’s virtual Commitee of the Whole meeting on Tuesday evening, Director of Community Services Shannon Baillon requested direction from town council to apply for the 2021 Reconnect Festival and Event program. This would authorize Baillon to apply for a grant of up to $10 000 to partially fund a Night Market event in Perth.
“This, of course, is for an event that would have to be undertaken once things are opened up again,” noted Baillon, in light of the current third-wave Covid-19 lockdown.
“We want everyone to be safe,” Baillon explained. “And we know it will take some time before people are comfortable being in crowds again.” This event will be held once restrictions are lifted, and organizers will allow for distancing and Covid-safe measures.
The Perth town council has already designated funds in the 2021 budget toward festivals and events. The estimated total cost of the Night Market is $20 000. If this application is successful, it will cut the town’s cost in half.
Council voted unanimously in favour of applying for the grant.
