The Leeds, Grenville & Lanark District Health Unit is advising the public to avoid social gatherings during the upcoming long weekend.
Information provided to the Hometown News by the heath unit states that it is “important that people remember that we are still in a stay at home order.”
Avoiding backyard barbecues and other gatherings will help keep cases of Covid-19 down. Under the terms of the stay at home order, travel is limited to essential purposes only. The public are asked to refrain from taking trips to other areas. Those planning to go camping may visit their own seasonal trailer for less than 24 hours, or stay there for at least 14 days.
Statistics for Leeds, Grenville & Lanark as of May 19 show 20 active Covid cases in the area, which is the lowest case count since early March. One person is being treated in hospital.
Eligibility for vaccination has been extended to all those 18 and over this week. The health unit is working on a plan with school boards for vaccinating ages 12-17.
In other news, the health unit is unveiling a new Instagram account starting this week, called LGLHealthUnitGenZ . The new account is targeting youth with public health messages.
