New no parking signs coming
At the August 15th session of Carleton Place council, approval was given for parking restrictions on Lake Ave West at Victoria (north side) and Costello Drive (both sides). Since the opening of Revera’s New Stoneridge Manor, large commercial trucks have had difficulty making deliveries due to vehicles parked on both sides of the street. Staff noted that Stoneridge has plenty of parking for both staff and visitors as do the other businesses that are accessed off that road.
On Lake Ave West, the newly relocated Spartan Pizza is causing a lot of traffic and customers parking in front of the popular pie-shop have been creating safety concerns for drivers trying to turn onto Lake Avenue from Victoria. Mayor Toby Randell indicated that Spartan’s owner had been consulted and he indicated his support for the parking ban as he had received public complaints as did town staff.
First subdivision for council
Council put their stamp of approval for the McNeely Landing Subdivision draft on at their committee meeting. It represents the first subdivision that this council has approved. All the current new projects in the community were approved by previous councils. This one involves 431 residential units to be built by Uniform Urban Developments Limited on their lands at the south-east corner of Highways 7 and 15. It will include a 56 unit multi-residential unit among single homes and town-houses. Also included in their plans are space for a school and a large reserve of forest land as well as the protection of the ‘mother’ tree on the site. The draft plan now goes to Lanark County for their approval. Carleton Place will maintain control of the subdivision through the normal site-plan and building permit process.
