Smiths Falls resident faces charges after road rage incident

A Smiths Falls resident faces numerous charges after an apparent case of road rage.

Officers with the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded on Tuesday, October 23, 2024, shortly before 1:30 p.m.

A vehicle had been reported to be travelling near Smiths Falls at high speeds in a dangerous manner, which led to an alleged road rage incident. This involved an assault outside a home in Montague Township. No serious injuries were reported, and the individual involved had left the scene.

The suspect’s vehicle was located a short time later in a ditch along Highway-43. A male was arrested after initially fleeing on foot from officers. Damage was later done to a holding cell at the Lanark Detachment.

As a result of the investigation, Andre CORMIER, age 35, has been charged with:

  • Assault causing bodily harm
  • Overcome resistance by attempting to choke, suffocate or strangle
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily
  • Resisting a peace officer
  • Dangerous operation of a vehicle
  • Driving with no licence
  • Driving without two licence plates
  • Licence plate improperly displayed
  • Stunt driving
  • Having improper tires
  • Mischief

The accused was held in custody and was scheduled to appear for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on October 23, 2024.
