Arctic Acres Rideau Lakes expansion includes a 30,000-square-foot Portland facility
PORTLAND — The Ontario government is investing $665,533 to support an expansion by Arctic Acres, a Rideau Lakes manufacturer specializing in precision-engineered geodesic structures and advanced building materials.
The funding, announced March 11 by Leeds-Grenville-Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes MPP Steve Clark, comes through the province’s Ontario Together Trade Fund.
It will support Arctic Acres’ $3.3-million project to build a 30,000-square-foot facility in Portland and expand production of the company’s proprietary ventilated structural insulated panels.
According to the province, the expansion will create five jobs and protect nine existing positions.
Clark said the project will help strengthen the local rural economy while helping the company expand into new markets.
“Arctic Acres’ investment is a major boost for our rural economy by creating and retaining good-paying jobs in Rideau Lakes Township,” Clark said in a statement.
Arctic Acres CEO Ben Canning said the new facility represents a significant step for the company and will allow it to produce modular building components in Ontario while expanding interprovincial markets.
Rideau Lakes Mayor Arie Hoogenboom welcomed the provincial investment, saying it supports local entrepreneurs and economic development in the township.
Founded in 2019, Arctic Acres designs and manufactures geodesic structures and other advanced building materials.
The funding comes from the Ontario Together Trade Fund, a provincial program aimed at helping businesses adapt to U.S. tariffs, expand into new markets and strengthen domestic manufacturing.
