Arrest made after report of armed man in Carleton Place

A 36-year man faces numerous charges after reports of an armed man in Carleton Place.

Officers of the Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a gas station on Highway-7, shortly after 6:00 p.m. on May 30, 2024, when it was reported that a male in a vehicle was armed with a handgun.

A male was arrested at the scene and a pellet gun, which looked like a real handgun was located. An individual also indicated they had been threatened. The vehicle had also been stolen.

Curtis GRIFFITH, age 36 of Ottawa, has been charged with:

  • Assault
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
  • Using an imitation firearm while committing an offence
  • Take vehicle without consent
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code – two counts
  • Driving while under suspension under the Highway Traffic Act
  • Fail to comply with a release order – three counts

The accused held in custody for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on May 31, 2024.
