Investigation into IPV and child abuse leads to attempted murder charge
RIDEAU LAKES — Leeds County OPP have laid 63 charges against a Rideau Lakes man, including attempted murder, following an investigation into intimate partner violence and child abuse that began in September.
The investigation was launched on Friday, Sept. 26, 2025, when members of the Leeds County detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police, assisted by the Leeds County OPP Crime Unit, began investigating allegations involving multiple victims.
As a result of the investigation, a 26-year-old man has been charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
- Attempt to commit murder
- Sexual assault on a person under 16
- Sexual assault
- Sexual interference
- Assault causing bodily harm by choking, suffocating or strangling, 12 counts
- Assault with a weapon, six counts
- Assault, 14 counts
- Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, 16 counts
- Forcible confinement, four counts
- Dangerous operation, two counts
- Extortion
- Intimidation using or threatening violence, two counts
- Mischief
- Fail to comply with a probation order
Police have identified five victims.
“The investigation began as an intimate partner violence and child abuse investigation,” Leeds OPP Const. Joey Mason stated in a media release on Dec. 16.
Mason confirmed with Hometown News that the charges stem from the investigation launched on Sept. 26, when 12 charges were originally laid against the same accused against two victims. He added that the investigation continued since that time.
Police have not released the name of the accused to protect the identity of the victims.
“The accused remains in custody,” Mason confirmed, and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on Feb. 17, 2026, at 11 a.m.
