Smiths Falls Bears clip Renfrew Wolves in overtime

Tyson Parker led the Smiths Falls Jr. A Bears to a 4-3 overtime win at home Friday, Dec. 20 in Central Canada Hockey League action in front of 250 fans. 

Parker, the team’s leading scorer with 20 goals and 23 assists, notched two in the team’s win. 

The Wolves came out hot in the first period, scoring twice before the home team could get on the board. 

Dylan Paron and Bryce Rebertz gave the visitors the 2-0 lead before Kyle Dagg responded with his unassisted marker with about five minutes left in the period. 

Into the second, Parker tied the rally with his marker assisted by Gus Rabe and Travis Ouellette with 4:43 gone. 

Kyle James put the home team up at 8:54, with assists credited to Peyton Veltkamp and Chris Cardillo. 

Before the end of the period, Kosta Kastanias tied the game at three all. 

The third period was a scoreless frenzy, forcing the overtime period. 

Parker made good on his unassisted shot at 4:49 as the Bears claimed this one, 4-3. He also earned the game’s first star honours. 

Kastanais had a goal and an assist for Renfrew to earn the second star nod, while Bears’ Dagg had the third star mention. 

Ethan Morrow was the winning netminder with 29 saves in 69 minutes of action. 

Nick Kurtiak was hit with the loss. 

The Bears are back in Renfrew tonight – Dec. 21 – before the Christmas break. 

Currently, Smiths Falls is in fifth in the Robinson Division with 13 wins and 13 losses, 3 overtime losses, and 1 shootout loss for 30 points. They’re just 8 behind Carleton Place. Overall, the Rockland Nationals are still on top with 49 points (24-5-1).
