Deceased body discovered along Rideau Canal shoreline in Smiths Falls

Smiths Falls police are investigating after a body was discovered along the shoreline of the Rideau Canal on Queen Street Tuesday afternoon.

Police said officers were called to the shoreline along Queen Street at about 2:50 p.m. on July 7 after boaters discovered a body near the shore.

Officers recovered the body from the water with the assistance of paramedics. The individual was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Smiths Falls Police Service is working with the Office of the Chief Coroner to determine the cause of death while next of kin are being notified.

Police have not released the identity of the deceased or provided any information about the circumstances surrounding the death.

The investigation remains ongoing.
