It has been a month Brooke Henderson will never forget.
The Smiths Falls LPGA superstar announced Sunday that she is engaged to minor league baseball player Ricky Castro, just days after a historic performance at the Amundi Evian Championship and weeks after welcoming a new member to her family.
“God is so good for giving us each other!” Castro wrote on Instagram alongside photos of the couple’s engagement.
Henderson’s answer was simple.
“Yes!”
The engagement comes on the heels of one of the finest stretches of golf in Henderson’s career.
Last week at the Amundi Evian Championship in France, the two-time major champion stormed back from a seven-shot deficit to force a playoff before ultimately finishing runner-up to Haeran Ryu.
Henderson’s final round featured three eagles, including a hole-in-one on the par-three eighth hole, as she narrowly missed capturing her third major title.
Over four rounds, Henderson recorded six eagles, the most by any player in a single LPGA tournament since the tour began tracking the statistic. The runner-up finish followed a third-place showing at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship just three weeks earlier, signalling that Henderson has returned to top form.
Away from the course, there has been more reason to celebrate.
Earlier this month, Henderson became an aunt when her sister, Brittany, and brother-in-law, Zach Sepanik, welcomed their daughter, Sahalee.
The baby’s name holds special meaning for the Henderson family. Sahalee Country Club, near Seattle, is where Henderson won her first LPGA Tour title and first major championship at the 2016 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, with Brittany serving as her caddie.
Their engagement marks another milestone for Henderson and Castro, who made their relationship public last summer through a series of Instagram posts. Castro, a pitcher for the St. Paul Saints, the Triple-A affiliate of the Minnesota Twins, shared photos of the couple together before Henderson later confirmed the relationship on her own social media.
While Henderson came within one hole of adding another major championship to her résumé, the past few weeks have delivered something equally memorable. Between record-setting golf, becoming an aunt and now celebrating an engagement, it has been a summer filled with milestones both on and off the course.
The Instagram post notes the couple became engaged on July 14, along with the words, “Mr. and Mrs. coming soon!”
