Carleton Place’s 2026 municipal election race is beginning to take shape, but with less than a month remaining before nominations close, the field remains limited to familiar faces.
Voters will elect a mayor, deputy mayor and five councillors to guide the town through the next four years. So far, however, only four members of the current council have declared their intention to seek another term.
Mayor Edward Patrick “Toby” Randell is running for re-election, while councillors Mark Hinton, Linda Seccaspina and Dena Comley have confirmed they will seek another term around the council table.
No challengers or candidates for deputy mayor have yet come forward, leaving Carleton Place’s unofficial candidate list off to a slow start.
There is still time for the field to grow. Nominations remain open until Aug. 21, and the final slate of certified candidates will not be confirmed until after the deadline. More names are expected to emerge in the coming weeks as prospective candidates make their decisions and campaigns begin to gain momentum.
