Carleton Place focuses on existing strategic properties

No more strategic properties will be added to the town’s list for the foreseeable future

Carleton Place council has made the decision not to move forward with a staff-led initiative that explored the potential of adding new properties to the strategic list.

“After debate and discussion, we decided six to one to not add those new properties and to continue to focus on our existing strategic properties as requested through the Interim Control process,” said Randell.

The properties that were under consideration by staff included:

  • 153-205 Edwards Drive
  • 215 Lake Avenue W (Carleton Place High School)
  • 2 Lansdowne Avenue (Cheerful Giver)
  • 25-55 Lansdowne Avenue (CP Mews)
  • 82-84 Mill Street

Though not added to the strategic list, Randell explained that each of these privately owned properties can still be brought forward for various redevelopment opportunities. This can happen individually through an Official Plan Amendment or by following the existing framework set out in the town’s Official Plan and Development Permit by-law.
