Meet local groups and discover volunteer opportunities at Carleton Place Sign-Up Night

CARLETON PLACE — Carleton Place Sign-Up Night is fast approaching, ready to connect the community once again.

On Thursday, March 5, the Carleton Place Arena will be buzzing as more than 40 local organizations, clubs, and teams gather in the upper arena hall from 6:30 to 8 p.m. The event is free to attend and open to everyone.

Now in its fifth year, Sign-Up Night has become a much-anticipated annual tradition hosted by the Town of Carleton Place, according to Jessica Hansen, community development co-ordinator with the town. Attendance, she says, typically ranges between 100 and 300 residents, with numbers varying from year to year.

First launched in March 2020, the event paused for two years because of COVID-19 restrictions before returning with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

“Upon its return, we saw a surge of new residents visiting to learn about the programs and services offered in the community, which is exactly what we hope for,” said Hansen.

Whether you’re interested in sports, arts and culture, gardening, youth programs, service clubs or community initiatives, there is something for every age and interest. Familiar groups such as the Canoe Club, library, youth centre and the Rotary Club of Carleton Place and Mississippi Mills will be among the many organizations on hand, eager to share what they do and how residents can get involved.

Sign-Up Night isn’t just about joining a program. It is also about building connections. For many newcomers, the evening offers a welcoming entry point into community life.

“For many new residents, this is a great opportunity to learn about the clubs and organizations that may be seeking volunteers as well,” Hansen explains. “Perhaps someone isn’t interested in signing up for an activity, but they may be interested in learning where they can volunteer their time and get better integrated into the community.”

In addition to browsing tables and chatting with volunteers, attendees can also enter to win door prizes.

Friendly, informative and full of opportunity, Sign-Up Night brings together more than 40 local organizations under one roof for an evening of community connection.
