To further support everyone’s safety and well-being, Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital is making changes to how patients access the Emergency Department.
A small temporary structure has been placed in front of the hospital. Beginning April 15th, the screener who currently sits inside the hospital front entrance will move out to this structure between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. From 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., patients will be asked to go up the stairs or ramp to the front door of the hospital for screening.
Patients exhibiting symptoms that may be COVID-related will be asked to enter through the Ambulance Bay, which is undergoing some final modifications. There will be a physician and a nurse in the Ambulance Bay.
Everyone else will continue to use the front door.
Thank you to Mayor Doug Black and the Town of Carleton Place for their support in erecting a tent over the ambulance bay ramp to keep it dry during inclement weather.
The community is also reminded that there is a COVID-19 Assessment Centre in Almonte, located at 75 Spring Street. Residents with mild to moderate symptoms should contact their primary care provider for a referral to the Assessment Centre. Those who do not have a primary care provider should call the Health Unit at 1-800-660-5853 ext. 2499 for a referral. Once a resident has been referred, the Assessment Centre will call to confirm the appointment time. Anyone experiencing severe symptoms such as difficulty breathing should call 911 or go to a hospital emergency room.
