SMITHS FALLS — Christopher Cummings has announced he will run for mayor of Smiths Falls, citing more than 40 years of professional experience and decades of community involvement.
A resident of the town for more than 30 years, Cummings recently retired following a career in business banking and financial advising. His background includes financial management, strategic planning and economic development.
Cummings served three terms on Smiths Falls council from 2006 to 2018. During that time, he was involved in initiatives including the Downtown Master Plan, economic development projects and efforts to recruit healthcare professionals to the community.
He also led fundraising efforts for the community centre, raising more than $200,000.
Cummings continues to serve in a number of roles, including with Rideau Community Health Services and the Ontario Trillium Foundation. He has also served as chair of the Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario.
He has volunteered with several local organizations, including the Smiths Falls Public Library and community service clubs.
Cummings said his campaign will focus on responsible planning, support for local businesses, strengthening essential services and maintaining quality of life.
“I believe strong leadership starts with listening,” he said. “I’m committed to working with residents to build a strong and sustainable future for our community.”
