PERTH – A new permanent service is now available in Lanark County to help residents navigate the difficult journey of loss.
Community Home Support Lanark County (CHSLC) has officially made its grief and bereavement program a permanent part of its services, following strong community demand and recent approval from the Ministry of Health.
“We recognized that many people in our community are living with the profound impacts of loss and could benefit from safe, compassionate spaces to share, learn, and heal,” said Sam Fyfe, community relations and volunteer coordinator with CHSLC. “This program was created to ensure that no one has to walk through grief alone.”
Filling a gap in rural communities
The program was first offered as a pilot through one-time funding, and feedback from participants and community partners confirmed the need for ongoing support.
“The need is significant,” Fyfe said. “Many residents have told us that support options are limited or difficult to access, especially in rural areas. Our program helps fill that gap by offering local, free services that are inclusive and welcoming.”
Sessions will be held at multiple accessible locations across Lanark County and surrounding areas, with some virtual options available for those unable to attend in person. Times will vary, with both daytime and early evening options, and schedules will be posted on CHSLC’s website, social media, and through community partners.
Funded for the future
The Ontario Ministry of Health has now confirmed CHSLC can continue offering the program as part of its permanent services. This ensures long-term sustainability and opens the door to expanding support.
“We are excited to grow this initiative, ensure its long-term sustainability, and expand the number of people we can serve,” Fyfe said.
