Rideau Lakes resident Connie Cochran was presented with the Ontario Senior of the Year Award, a program that gives each municipality in Ontario the opportunity to recognize an outstanding senior who, after age 65, enriches the social, cultural or civic life of the community.

Council presented Cochran with a certificate at their municipal services committee meeting held on Monday, June 23, 2025, at the Municipal Office in Chantry, to acknowledge the important contribution made to the local community.

This provincial award, overseen by the Ministry of Citizenship and Culturalism was awarded to a well-known local and long-time Portland resident, Connie Cochran for her incredible volunteerism.

June is recognized as ‘Seniors Month’ in Ontario, and many seniors generously contribute their knowledge, care, and time to build their communities. This year, through a nomination made by Rideau Lakes council, Connie Cochran is the well-deserved recipient of this prestigious award.

During the presentation, Mayor Hoogenboom thanked Cochran for her volunteer efforts in the community, noting her many hours dedicated to support events at the Portland Community Hall, her time serving as an active member the Portland and Area Community Enhancement Committee, and for being a driving force behind the success of community building activities over several years.
