Perth wastewater lagoon expansion will increase treatment capacity and support future housing development
Construction is underway on an expansion of the Town of Perth’s wastewater lagoon, a project aimed at increasing treatment capacity and supporting future residential growth.
The project was officially launched during a groundbreaking ceremony on June 26 attended by municipal officials, Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston MPP John Jordan, project partners and community representatives.
The project is receiving nearly $3 million through the Ontario government’s Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program’s Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund.
Once complete, the expansion is expected to increase the lagoon’s servicing capacity to the equivalent of about 10,500 people, helping support future residential development in the community.
“Through our government’s $4-billion Municipal Housing Infrastructure Program, we are investing in local infrastructure that enables more homes and strengthens communities,” Acting Infrastructure Minister Todd McCarthy said. “For families and residents in Perth, this project will help unlock the construction of nearly 2,500 homes.”
John Jordan said the investment will provide the infrastructure needed to support future housing development in Perth.
“Reliable infrastructure is the foundation of a growing community,” Mayor Judy Brown said. “This project will help ensure Perth is ready for future growth while continuing to provide the high-quality services residents and businesses depend on every day.”
Construction is expected to continue through fall 2027.
