The Cornwall Colts were in town Friday, Nov. 29, and handed the hometown Smiths Falls Bears a 3-0 loss in Central Junior Hockey League action, in front of 272 fans.
The Bears couldn’t solve the Cornwall goaltending, as Galvin Mechler (first game star) was stellar between the pipes with 30 saves for the shutout.
Smiths Falls goalie, Ethan Morrow, had half the work with just 12 shots on his crease – 9 of them saves.
The Bears have seen Cornwall two other times this season, and the Colts squeaked out one-goal wins each time.
After a scoreless first period, the Colts scored their first in the second frame with Parker Bonsignore’s goal (second star); then the other two came in the third frame with Tristan Miron and Brayden Bowen doing the scoring.
The third star of the game was Smiths Falls’ Travis Ouellette.
The Bears have had a tough November with just 3 wins in 10 games. They sit in fifth place now of the Robinson Division with a 10-12-1-1 record. Carleton Place is on top of the league with 31 points (14-7-1-2). Rockland Nationals are in first overall with 39 points on a 19-4-1 record.
Smiths Falls is on the road to Carleton Place on Sunday, Dec. 1 for a 3 p.m. start.
