Candidates are beginning to emerge in Drummond/North Elmsley Township ahead of the Oct. 26 municipal election, with the first contested race developing in North Elmsley Ward.
Incumbent Coun. Paul Kehoe is the only candidate to have filed nomination papers for reeve following incumbent Reeve Steve Fournier’s decision not to seek re-election.
In Drummond Ward, John Matheson and Heather McIntosh have filed for the ward’s two council seats.
North Elmsley Ward has attracted three candidates for two council seats: Ray Scissons, Paul Coutts and Vincent Carroll.
The 2026 election marks a change from the 2022 municipal election, when all council positions were filled by acclamation.
Nomination papers may be filed until 2 p.m. Aug. 21. Election day is Oct. 26.
