Communication upgrades, mobile towers and backup power supported by emergency preparedness funding
REGIONAL — The provincial government is providing nearly $150,000 in funding to municipalities in the Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston region to support local emergency preparedness initiatives.
The funding is being delivered through the Community Emergency Preparedness Grant (CEPG), which supports municipalities in improving their ability to respond to emergencies.
Several local communities will use the funding for specific upgrades.
The Township of South Frontenac will receive $50,000 to purchase mobile digital signage that can be used to inform residents and visitors during emergency situations, including road incidents and severe weather events.
The Township of North Frontenac will receive $49,913.28 to install two mobile communication towers designed to deliver emergency alerts and safety messages in areas with limited cellular or internet connectivity. The towers are intended to support response efforts during events such as wildfires, storms, floods, power outages and road closures.
The Town of Carleton Place will receive $50,000 to install a generator and related electrical components at the Carambeck Community Centre. The upgrades will allow key areas of the facility, including the gymnasium, lobby and washrooms, to remain operational during power outages.
The project is intended to support emergency situations including severe weather events and other disruptions that may require residents to leave their homes and seek shelter.
The CEPG program supports municipalities, First Nations communities and local organizations through a competitive application process.
