Rideau Lakes Holiday Food Drive will distribute $2,500 in Enbridge Gas funding among five local food banks
RIDEAU LAKES — A $2,500 grant from Enbridge Gas will help support food banks across Rideau Lakes as demand for food assistance continues to grow.
The Township of Rideau Lakes announced May 13 that Enbridge Gas approved funding for the municipality’s Holiday Food Drive through Benevity’s partnership with the Canadian Online Giving Foundation.
According to the township, the funding will be split evenly among five local food banks, with each organization receiving $500.
Mayor Arie Hoogenboom said the contribution will provide added support for families facing food insecurity during the holiday season.
“We are pleased to announce that $500 will be distributed to each of the five food banks in the area, ensuring that more families have access to the support they need,” Hoogenboom said in the release.
The township said the grant will help strengthen the efforts of local food banks and support the long-term sustainability of the annual food drive initiative.
Representatives from the Elgin, Delta, Portland, Smiths Falls and Westport food banks gathered with township officials for a presentation marking the announcement.
