The Frontenac Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a fatal collision on Highway 401.
On Wednesday, July 8, 2026, shortly after 7 p.m., Frontenac OPP officers responded to a collision in the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Division Street. Police said the initial investigation indicates a vehicle struck the concrete centre median. The driver exited the vehicle and was subsequently struck by a passing vehicle. The 56-year-old Carleton Place woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
Highway 401 westbound was closed for several hours while members of the OPP Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement Team assisted with the investigation.
