Helen Jean Gamble (Brunton)
Helen passed suddenly and peacefully just outside Perth, Ontario on July 1, 2026, while doing something she loved. A native of Nova Scotia, Helen later moved with her family to Hamilton, Ontario and in 1970 moved to Ottawa with her young son (Shane). Helen joined the federal public service where she had a long and fulfilling career in materials management. Helen re-married in 1982 to her beloved Morris Brunton. Together they made a home, travelled, explored nature and the country before Morris’ untimely passing in 1994.
After taking early retirement, Helen moved to Perth, Ontario and lived a peaceful, happy life. There she pursued her love of writing poetry and prose, forming a writer’s group. Helen embraced the Perth community, becoming a Big Sister and joined the Perth Kiwanis Club. Helen particularly embraced becoming a grandmother to her son Shane’s children Elliott and Hollis. She proudly made her home a place for their countless visits and shared meals. Their mere presence gave Helen great joy, and she is sorely missed by the grandchildren she loved so much and whose lives she immeasurably enriched.
Helen’s family and friends across the country are saddened by her sudden passing. Her older brother (Dr. Donald Gamble) and sister-in-law Betty Gamble had a special place in her heart, and she planned on travelling to see them and her beloved sister-in-law Susie Gamble, who was the wife of her brother George Gamble. Helen also maintained close contact with nieces and nephews across the country, including Hugh, Heather and Wendy, as well as her late sister Marion Wenting’s daughters Christine and Sharon.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, August 21 in her beloved Perth Ontario. It will be held in the bandstand behind Perth Town Hall in beautiful Stewart Park at 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made on her behalf to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lanark County.
