The list of candidates for the 2026 municipal election in Rideau Lakes Township continues to grow with a familiar name joining the mayoral race.
Joan Delaney filed her papers on June 25.
Delaney resigned from council in March 2025 during her second term, saying ongoing conflict at the council table and frustration over delays involving a rezoning application had led to her decision to step away.
Three candidates have also filed for council seats including two sitting councillors.
- Ward 1: Current councillor Sue Dunfield, filed June 18.
- Ward 2: Current councillor Marcia Maxwell, filed June 17.
- Ward 4 (North Crosby-Newboro): John Fenik, filed May 25. He’s a newcomer to Rideau Lakes politics but a former long term mayor in Perth.
As of June 26, no candidates have filed for Ward 3 (South Crosby).
Nominations for Ontario’s 2026 municipal election remain open until 2 p.m. on Aug. 21, with election day set for Oct. 26.
