Lanark County has won the 2026 Silver Chain Challenge after residents logged more than 31,000 kilometres walking, running and cycling during June.
A total of 378 participants recorded 31,673 kilometres, surpassing Renfrew County’s total of 21,284 kilometres in the annual friendly competition promoting active transportation and healthy living.
“This victory is a testament to the dedication and enthusiasm of our residents,” Lanark County Warden Richard Kidd said. “Nearly 400 participants came together to make active living a priority and demonstrate the incredible community spirit that exists across Lanark County.”
Perry Rousseau recorded the highest individual total among Lanark County participants, logging 2,271 kilometres during the month-long challenge.
“The Silver Chain Challenge is about much more than winning,” Kidd said. “It encourages healthier lifestyles, promotes active transportation and inspires people to discover the incredible trails, roads and communities that make our region such a wonderful place to live and visit.”
Lanark County thanked participants, volunteers and supporters for taking part in this year’s challenge and looks forward to defending its title in 2027.
