The Leeds County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police has arrested and charged two people with more than 80 firearms-related offences.
Leeds County OPP officers responded to a reported incident at about 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, 2026, and began an investigation. The Leeds County Crime Unit later assumed responsibility for the investigation, with assistance from the Emergency Response Team, Tactics and Rescue Unit, Canine Unit, Community Street Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services while executing a search warrant.
Officers seized the following items from a residence:
- More than 30 firearms, including restricted and prohibited firearms.
- More than 50 firearms-related items, including ammunition and magazines.
- One crossbow.
As a result of the investigation, two people were arrested.
A 72-year-old Leeds County man remains in custody and is charged with the following offences:
- Sexual assault.
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm.
- Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition.
- Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm (26 counts).
- Possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order (25 counts).
A 69-year-old Leeds County man was released from custody and is charged with the following offences:
- Careless storage of a firearm, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition (16 counts).
- Possession of a firearm at an unauthorized place (eight counts).
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm (six counts).
The identities of the accused have not been released in order to protect the identity of the victim.
