Dec. 2025 engineering review leads to key system improvements at Lower Beverley Lake Park
DELTA — The Lower Beverley Lake Park Management Board has approved a series of targeted septic system upgrades following an engineering review completed late last year.
In a press release issued Feb. 25 by board chair Penny Sawyer and park manager William Morris, the board received an engineering report in December 2025 that examined the operation of septic systems within the 235-site campground and recommended replacement leaching beds for three systems.
“It is important to emphasize that the recommendations for repairs, upgrades, and replacements were made despite the fact that all existing sewage systems remain functional,” the release stated. “No system failures have occurred.”
The release stated that several minor items identified through the review process have already been addressed.
“Staff continue to monitor the operation and maintenance of these systems in accordance with all applicable regulatory requirements to ensure continued safe and reliable performance,” the release said.
The approved work is limited in scope and applies only to specific systems identified in the engineering report. The release stressed that the upgrades are not connected to a previously discussed proposal to construct a centralized sewage system for the entire campground.
“The approved upgrades are targeted improvements to specific systems and are not related to, nor part of, the previous proposal to construct one large, centralized sewage system for the entire campground,” the release stated.
An assessment prepared as part of a broader compliance process examined 11 Class IV sewage systems serving facilities across the park. While no system failures were identified, the review concluded that all but one system required some level of remedial work to meet current regulatory expectations.
The recommended work ranged from minor corrective actions, including effluent filter replacements, to more extensive upgrades such as tank and leaching bed replacements.
The compliance review also identified outstanding planning and building matters within seasonal trailer areas of the campground, where structures such as decks, sheds and gazebos may not be supported by permits currently on file.
“The Management Board remains committed to responsible stewardship of park infrastructure and to ensuring that Lower Beverley Lake Park continues to operate in a safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible manner for the benefit of campers, Rideau Lakes Township and the broader community,” the release said.
Rideau Lakes Township council deferred passing a campground licensing bylaw at its recent meeting as doing so would not have allowed a license for this campground for the 2026 camping season.
