Missing person located deceased adjacent to Highway 15

The Lanark County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating after the body of a missing man was found adjacent to Highway-15 near Smiths Falls.

Steven TATE, age 34 of Montague Township had been reported missing on November 4, 2023. He was last seen alive the same date in the early morning hours.

A body was located November 8, 2023 by OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT) members and has now been confirmed as that of Steven TATE. Highway 15 was closed for a period of time while Technical Collision Investigators and a Collision Reconstructionist assisted with the investigation.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death is ongoing, under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

There is believed to be no threat to public safety.

Investigators also want to hear from anyone with potentially relevant doorbell, dashcam or other video recordings from the days leading up to Steven’s disappearance.
