The Municipality of Mississippi Mills is seeking nominations for local businesses to be recognized during its annual Long-Standing Business Appreciation Night.
The program recognizes business owners who have reached milestones of 10, 25, 35, 50 or 65-plus years of continuous ownership and operation in Mississippi Mills.
Recipients will be honoured Thursday, Oct. 1 at Almonte Old Town Hall.
“Behind every successful business is a story of dedication, determination and community spirit,” Mayor Christa Lowry said. “The businesses we celebrate with this recognition have weathered challenges, embraced opportunities and continued to invest in Mississippi Mills year after year. Their commitment deserves to be celebrated.”
Residents, customers, employees, family members and business owners can submit nominations. Self-nominations are also encouraged.
To qualify, a business must be located within Mississippi Mills and currently operating. The recognition is based on the length of ownership by the current owner or the same family, rather than the age of a business that may have changed hands over the years.
Owners who purchased an existing business can be recognized once they reach a qualifying ownership milestone of at least 10 years.
Nominations should include the business and owner’s names, business address, number of years the current owner or family has operated it, and a brief description of the business and any notable milestones or achievements.
Nominations must be submitted by Sept. 10 to Tiffany MacLaren, Mississippi Mills manager of community and economic development, at tmaclaren@mississippimills.ca.
The municipality has held the recognition program since 2016. More than 110 Mississippi Mills businesses have been honoured since it began.
Up to 40 businesses can be recognized each year, with a maximum of 10 recipients in each milestone category.
