Fire Bad! Perth’s Burn Ban is still in effect

Fire chief Trevor Choffe reminded council during Tuesday night’s Committee of the Whole meeting that Perth’s open burn ban is in effect; no open burning is permitted at this time.

Director of Environmental Services Grant Machan noted that the Tay River is very low due to our early spring and low precipitation. “We are three weeks ahead of where we usually are this time of year,” he said.  The spring typically sees the year’s heaviest influx of water from melting snow and spring rainstorms. This year has been unusually dry.

Choffe noted that even if you have a burning permit, it is revoked for the duration of any burning ban. Please listen to the automated message at the Fire Department Administration Office (613-267-2596) for up-to-date information.
