LAURIE WEIR

The Smiths Falls Jr. A Bears doubled up on the Nepean Raiders Friday night in Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) action, posting a 4-2 win in front of 285 fans at home.

Quinn Booth led the Bears’ scoring with two goals, while Tyson Parker and Xavier Tessier each netted singles. Ethan Morrow earned the win in net with 20 saves.

The Bears held leads of 1-0 after the first period and 3-2 after the second. Nepean’s goals came back-to-back in the second frame, courtesy of Dylan Pollock and Carter Williamson, briefly tying the game.

Booth was named the game’s first star, Parker earned second star honours, and Nepean goaltender John Gedraitis, who made 36 saves, was the third star.

Despite the victory, the Bears remain in ninth place overall in the CCHL and fifth in the Robinson Division with a record of 15-14-3-1, good for 34 points. They trail the Kemptville 73’s by two points and the Brockville Braves by three.

The Bears will hit the road Sunday afternoon to face the division-leading Carleton Place Canadians at 3 p.m. The Canadians currently sit 10 points ahead of Smiths Falls.
