Bridge closures planned in Smiths Falls for spring maintenance

SUBMITTED

Parks Canada will be conducting annual spring maintenance at several swing bridges along the Rideau Canal, in preparation for the 2025 navigation season. This work includes preventative maintenance tasks such as washing, greasing, and conducting visual inspections to ensure safe and reliable bridge operations for the season ahead.

Temporary Bridge Closures (weather permitting):

  • Thursday, May 1, 2025 – Abbott Street Swing Bridge (Smiths Falls)
Closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday, May 6 & Wednesday, May 7, 2025 – Old Sly’s Swing Bridge (Smiths Falls)
Closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. both days

Detour routes will be managed by Beacon Lite and clearly marked. Motorists and pedestrians are asked to plan their travel accordingly to avoid delays. Parks Canada would like to thank the public for their cooperation and understanding as we complete these important maintenance activities.
