Artist showcase at The Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum

The Smiths Falls Heritage House Museum is excited to present a showcase of artist Colleen Gray’s work. Painting with ground mineral watercolours, Gray creates vivid and iridescent artworks that share Indigenous stories and experiences with the viewer. Rooted in Indigenous spirituality, learned and practiced over her lifetime and informed by her Cree Elders, Gray uses her art to teach others about how to think Indigenously and how to understand the deep connection to the land that we all have, even when we don’t acknowledge it. This showcase of over fourty works of art is planned to be on display during phase three of the province’s reopening, from July 28th until August 22nd and all of Gray’s paintings are available for purchase.

The museum will also be hosting an artist talk on July 28th at 6 pm, where Colleen will share her thoughts on Indigenous spirituality and her personal understanding and experiences as expressed through her art, as well as her unique medium of art. This event will take place outside on the museum grounds with social distancing in place. There is no fee to attend this event, however we request that guests bring a donation of new art supplies for The Art For Aid Project, an organization working to connect Indigenous youth to art and knowledge of their culture.

To register for the artist talk, please visit https://sfartistshowcase.eventbrite.ca. To book a time to see Colleen’s showcase or to tour the museum, please call 613-283-6311 or email heritagehouse@smithsfalls.ca.
