Smiths Falls Bears drop 3-1 decision to Cornwall Colts

The Smiths Falls Bears dropped a 3-1 decision to the Cornwall Colts at home Friday, Jan. 31, in front of 304 fans in Central Canada Hockey League action.

It was a tight game through two periods, with neither team able to score despite Smiths Falls outshooting the visitors 24-15.

Cornwall opened the scoring early in the third period when Camden McCuaig found the back of the net at 1:36, assisted by Roarke Gilmour and Zack Speck-Meek.

The Bears answered with Gus Rabe’s second goal as a Bear, assisted by Chris Cardillo and Peyton Veltkamp.

Cornwall regained the lead at 16:22 with a short-handed goal past Ethan Morrow. Colby Lauzon and Gilmour assisted on the game-winner.

Bradley Fraser sealed the win with an empty-net goal at 19:29 as the Colts secured the 3-1 victory.

Game stars were Cornwall goaltender Lasperance-Spack, who made 39 saves, as well as Wyatt Warner of Cornwall and Smiths Falls’ Rabe.

The Bears have yet to defeat Cornwall this season in four meetings.

Smiths Falls headed to Nepean on Sunday for a 2:30 p.m. puck drop.

The Bears sit in eighth place in the standings, tied with the Ottawa Junior Senators at 41 points, just three points out of fifth place. Rockland leads the league with 71 points and an impressive 35-5-1 record.
