Wanted man flees, impaired driver stuck, and more – A busy week for police

Suspicious persons call leads to arrest

On February 18th 2025, at approximately 03:50 a.m. the Smiths Falls Police responded to a report of youths checking vehicle doors in a commercial parking lot. Members of Smiths Falls police conducted patrols of the area and successfully located the suspects.

As a result of the investigation a 17 year old from Smiths Falls was arrested and charged with failing to comply with their undertaking (x 1). The accused was later released with conditions. The accused is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

Wanted subject arrested after attempting to flee from police

On February 19 2025 at approximately 2:35 a.m. a member of the Smiths Falls Police observed a male subject who had a warrant out for their arrest. The subject attempted to flee from the officer upon their arrival. After a very brief foot pursuit the subject was successfully arrested without further incident.

44 year old James MORRIS of Smiths Falls was arrested on a court issued bench warrant for failing to appear on a previous trespassing at night charge (x 1 ).The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Impaired driver arrested at Lower Reach park

On February 19 2025, at approximately 4:31 p.m. members of the Smiths Falls Police Service were requested to attend Lower Reach park for a possible collision. Upon arrival to the scene it was learned that no collision took place, however a vehicle was stuck in a snow bank and the driver was showing signs of impairment.

As a result the investigation 58 year old Anne GASKIN was arrested and charged with operation while impaired (x 1) and operation while impaired- blood alcohol concentration over 80 mg (x 1). The accused was later released from custody with conditions. The accused is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
