Carleton Place Remembers

A suitably large crowd of over 1500 people gathered at Carleton Place’s Cenotaph under sunny skies on November 11th to pay their respects and to honour veterans and members of Canada’s military services. Complying with current public health pandemic measures, everyone managed their social distance and wore masks as requested by Legion organizers and were spread out over a larger area than in pre-COVID times. Other than the masks and distancing, about the only things that marked the difference in this ceremony as opposed to earlier years were the lack of a parade and the absence of a brass band. Former Deputy Mayor Jerry Flynn read the names on the honour rolls and Father David Andrews provided the blessing and led the assembly in prayer.
