Mayor Fenik took a moment at the conclusion of Tuesday night’s town council meeting to highlight the importance of the 2021 Census. The Census will not be prevented by the Covid-19 pandemic, but will be conducted as much as possible in a contactless manner.

Councillor Cameron stressed that participation in the Census every five years is not optional, “it’s the law. You have to.” Mayor Fenik added that the census affects each municipality and region. Policies, plans, and projections are all based on the picture that is provided by the Census of Population. The Canadian Census is taken every five years (in calendar years that end in 1 and 6).

Canada’s 2021 Census will be taken in the month of May, and May 11 is Census Day. In accordance with the Statistics Act, all residents of Canada are legally required to complete the census questionnaire.

Council moved to support the 2021 Census by encouraging all residents to complete their questionnaire in person or online.
