Council approves designation of Butterflyway Gardens

During Perth’s Committee of the Whole meeting on Tuesday night, town council received a recommendation to assist in a local youth group’s pollinator-protection project. Climate Network Lanark’s youth group requested town council to designate two four-foot-square plots of town land for their Butterflyway Project. This project, which is a local arm of a national initiative of the David Suzuki Foundation, will see more than twelve gardens around Perth planted by the Climate Network Lanark youth group. This will encourage the proliferation of pollinators and provide native species of plants that encourage the return of at-risk butterfly populations such as the monarch butterfly.

Council unanimously supported the recommendation, which came via the Climate Change Sustainability Advisory Panel.
