Carleton Place council approves extra clean-up funds

At the Tuesday, June 7th meeting of Carleton Place council, the final approval was given for an extra $60K for clean up after the May 21st storm. The funds will come from any surplus posted at the end of this year or from an administrative reserve.

Review of storm clean up approved

In the committee of the whole meeting after the council session, a motion from Councilor Linda Seccaspina to have staff produce a report on the town’s response to the May 21st storm passed. Director of Protective Services, Pascal Meunier told councilors that his office was already working on such as report as mandated by provincial legislation. When the debate on whether to add another report came up, some questioned the need for two reviews. Councilor Toby Randell stated a separate report to council was warranted as they were the wing of the corporation most closely connected to residents through the election process.

First view of Findlay Foundry development

The town planning department has posted the application details for a major development of the former Findlay Foundry lands on High Street. The property has remained vacant for over 50 years since the famous industrial plant was torn down. The proposed development would see two residential apartment buildings (5 storey and 7 storey) containing 213 residential units, one 2 storey commercial building, 330 parking spaces (200 underground and 130 surface spaces) and green-space along the waterfront including a boardwalk, floating dock, and pavilion The town’s site states the proposal is compliant with all provisions of the Development Permit By-law with the exception of the minimum provided parking spaces, to which a variation of 63 spaces is being requested. Inverness Homes of Ottawa is the applicant. Members of the public have until June 30th to make any comments to the town. The planning documents and graphics can be found by entering ‘Findlay Foundry’ into the search window on the carletonplace.ca homepage.
