Major milestone brings CPDMH new Emergency Department closer to opening

SUBMITTED

The Mississippi River Health Alliance (MRHA) is proud to announce a major milestone in the journey toward enhanced healthcare access for our community. The new Thomas Cavanagh Emergency Department (ED) at Carleton Place & District Memorial Hospital (CPDMH) has achieved Substantial Performance. This means construction is now significantly complete, and the facility is in its final stages of preparation for clinical operations early this year.

This milestone represents a transformative leap forward for healthcare in Carleton Place and surrounding areas. Designed to meet the needs of today while anticipating those of tomorrow, the new Emergency Department offers a state-of-the-art, patient-centered environment that prioritizes accessibility, safety, and comfort for patients and staff alike.

“This is an exciting moment for our community,” said Brad Harrington, President and CEO of the Mississippi River Health Alliance. “The new Emergency Department is more than just a building—it’s a reflection of our commitment to providing exceptional care close to home. This achievement would not have been possible without the incredible support of our donors, staff, and the Carleton Place community.”

The modern facility features expanded treatment areas, including specialized rooms for trauma, mental health, and pediatric care, as well as advanced infection control measures and barrier-free accessibility. These upgrades ensure that patients receive the highest quality care in a space designed with their well-being in mind.

Plans are underway for a formal grand opening celebration, where the community will be invited to explore this incredible facility. Details will be shared as they are finalized. This event will offer residents and stakeholders the chance to tour the new ED and learn more about how it will serve the region for years to come.

The new Emergency Department is a testament to the power of community collaboration. Through the Healthy Futures. Together! Campaign, donors generously contributed $5 million to support the first phase of this redevelopment project. Their dedication underscores a shared commitment to ensuring access to world-class healthcare for generations.

MRHA extends heartfelt thanks to the donors, staff, project partners, and the CPDMH Foundation who made this achievement possible. This milestone reflects the power of teamwork and the unwavering dedication of our community.
