Developer fails second try for approval

Patten Homes failed in its second attempt to get approval for a new block of townhomes on Taber Street at Tuesday’s committee of the whole meeting for Carleton Place council. They first brought their proposal for seven 3-storey townhomes in August of this year, which the committee turned down because of density and height. Their latest application was for 5 townhomes with minor variances requested for a reduction in lot frontage from 5.5m to 4.6m and a reduction in the driveway width from 6m to 4.8m. There was no reduction in height from the original plan.

Staff revealed that several neighbours had submitted comments opposing this latest version citing its excessive height and likely problems with snow removal and parking. Three of those neighbours appeared as a delegation during the zoom meeting to voice their displeasure with the process and to report that the developer had failed to come to an agreement with them regarding interference with their driveways. Upon hearing this, the committee again denied the application.
