Fire at Mississippi Mills Public Works Garage contained with no injuries

STAFF WRITER

Mississippi Mills Mayor Christa Lowry confirmed that a fire broke out at the Mississippi Mills Public Works Garage Friday night when a plow truck caught fire inside the Rod Cameron Garage. The fire department was dispatched just after 8:30 p.m. following an alarm activation.

No one was injured in the incident, and the fire was contained to the area where the truck was parked. Mississippi Mills firefighters were able to safely remove the vehicle and extinguish the flames. The truck, a single-axle plow used for in-town operations, was an older unit.

Although smoke damage affected the garage and other vehicles inside, Mayor Lowry reassured that the Roads and Public Works department remains fully operational. Significant cleaning and further assessments are underway to identify any potential hidden damage.

Lowry commended the quick actions of the Mississippi Mills Fire Department, noting that without their prompt response, the situation could have been far worse. She also extended her gratitude to neighboring fire departments in Carleton Place, Beckwith Township, and Lanark Highlands for their support.
