The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit has assessed the situation in which there was a case of possible exposure to the COVID-19 virus for a small group of children and staff at the municipal Childcare Centre at 3 Francis Street and determined there is no risk in the children returning to care on Monday. This assessment is based on multiple negative test results and no evidence of illness among the affected children and staff.

“This is good news,” says Dr. Paula Stewart, Medical Officer of Health for the Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit. “All the ministry guidelines were followed in this situation, and they led to a reassurance that it is now safe for the children to return.”

Staff will continue to work with the Health Unit in ensuring all safety protocols are being met and that the health and safety of children and staff at the Centre remain the top priority.

“I am very pleased with both our staff and the Health Unit for their handling of this sensitive situation,” says Mayor Doug Black. “It is comforting to know in these uncertain times that our children are in such good hands.”

If anyone has questions or concerns, please call the Health Unit at 1-800-660-5853, extension 2222.
