The Lanark County Paramedic Service (“LCPS”) proudly celebrated another successful Annual ‘Fill the Ambulance with Food’ Drive on December 7 and 8, 2024, a heartfelt tradition that unites paramedics, volunteers, and residents to support families in need during the holidays. Thanks to the incredible generosity of the community, LCPS collected 110 boxes of food and essential items—a 40% increase from last year—and raised $4,625.00 in cash donations for local food banks.

By the numbers:

  • 110 boxes of food and essential items collected, including diapers, toilet paper, and laundry detergent (up from 78 boxes in 2023).
  • $4,625.00 in cash donations raised to support local food banks

Over the course of two days, LCPS staff and their families were joined by dedicated volunteers—including players from the Mississippi Thunder Kings U-14 and the Almonte Inferno Junior Hockey Club—to collect donations at Independent Grocers in Almonte, Carleton Place, Perth, and Smiths Falls. These contributions will provide vital support to local food banks, ensuring families have access to essential supplies during the holiday season.

“This food drive reflects the extraordinary generosity of Lanark County residents and the dedication of our paramedics,” said Paramedic Chief Travis Mellema. “Every contribution helps ensure families in our community have what they need this holiday season. We’re proud to see this tradition continue to make a meaningful impact year after year.”

A tradition of giving back

The Annual Holiday Food Drive has become a hallmark of LCPS’s community engagement efforts. Beyond providing exceptional emergency medical care, LCPS is dedicated to improving the lives of Lanark County residents through events like this that foster connection and care. Paramedics are trained to respond to emergencies, but their commitment to the community extends far beyond the ambulance. This food drive exemplifies their unwavering dedication to the health and well-being of the people they serve.

LCPS extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated, volunteered, and supported this year’s event, helping to brighten the holiday season for families in need across Lanark County.
