New equipment for Perth snow removal ‘efficient and helpful’

During Tuesday evening’s Committee of the Whole meeting, Director of Environmental Services Grant Machan extended thanks to town council on behalf of environmental services staff. Perth’s recent acquisition of a ribbon blower for the sidewalk plow “is efficient and helpful. We’d like to offer a sincere thank you to council.  Acquiring the ribbon blower will reap benefits for years to come.”

Machan reported that so far this winter, there have been six major snow removal events. Over 1200 loads of snow have been removed from the town streets and sidewalks with the use of rented dump trucks. “Staff can fill a truck in 45-60 seconds, so it’s important to have them all lined up in a row to be as efficient as possible.” Machan noted that snow removal is tracking well within budget.

Machan also reported that Perth’s flood threat is currently listed as moderately low. The ground was saturated with water in the fall, and Perth saw significant snowfall this winter, but environmental services is not seeing any flood threats at the moment.

Councillor Judy Brown inquired about the number of snow storms, and Machan reported that there were six major snow removal events this year, “very normal; typical.”

Director Machan expressed his hopes for no more major snow storms this spring.
