Rideau Lake’s MECG discuss and prepare for COVID-19

The Township of Rideau Lake’s Municipal Emergency Management Control Group (MECG) convened the morning of March 13 at 9:30am to discuss and prepare for COVID-19 and the Township’s response. The MECG oversees and implements the Township’s Emergency Response Plan. At this time, the Township has not declared a state of emergency.

In response to developing events and best practices championed by public health officials, effective
Monday, March 16, all Township owned and operated Community Halls will be closed until April 14. Further, effective Monday March 16, all Community and Volunteer Committee work and community programming and events will suspend until April 14.

The regular business of the Township and Council continues under a heighten level of awareness. No other municipal services have been impacted at this time.

Residents are encouraged to monitor the Township’s website for updates on the Township’s response to COVID-19. Residents are asked to not attend the Township office in Chantry seeking COVID-19 information or if they feel unwell. Instead, they are encouraged to call the local Health Unit at 613-345-5685 or check the Ministry of Health website for updates and information.

The EMCG will continue to meet regularly to assess the community and Township’s operational situation. The Township encourages all residents to take the COVID-19 risk seriously and follow the direction and advice of public health officials.
