RMEO on track for a busy spring

During Monday night’s council meeting in Smiths Falls, Councilor Stephen Robinson shared some updates from a recent meeting at the Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario.

Over the winter, several upgrades have been made, Robinson reported, the baggage area and waiting room now have newly refinished floors; the kitchen has been redone; washrooms have been updated.

The museum’s cabooses, which serve as extraordinary Airbnbs for out of town guests, have been refurbished and made completely ready to host overnight visitors.

RMEO has recently received a grant of $7,300 which will be put towards creating vendor sheds on the property. The sheds will be painted red.

More grants are pending, which RMEO will use for staffing as they grow into their busy season. “They have also applied for nine summer students, and are hoping to get as many as they need,” Robinson said.

The annual general meeting will be held on March 27, and the RMEO is looking forward to a busy spring. They will host the grand opening of their Airbnb cabooses, and will be encouraging prom-goers to use the museum as a beautiful photo backdrop. Their Modular Rally is scheduled for March 18, the Easter Express on April 8, a Clear Out the Attic Sale on May 13, and the very popular Mother’s Day High Tea on May 14.
