Porch pirate, Stolen Vehicle, and Assault — SFPS report busy week

Report of a “porch pirate” results in arrest

On March 14th , 2025 the Smiths Falls Police Service received information of a suspicious vehicle on Smiths Falls Avenue that may be involved in “porch pirate” parcel thefts. Members of the Smiths Falls Police began to patrol the area in attempt to locate the vehicle. At approximately 3:10 p.m. the vehicle was located on Lombard Street and stopped by police.

As a result of the investigation, a 14 year old male from Perth was arrested. The accused youth stands charged with theft under $5000 (x 2). The accused was later released with conditions and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

One arrested after foot pursuit

On March 15th , 2025 members of Smiths Falls Police observed a wanted male in a parking lot on Elmsley Street North. The male suspect ran from the presence of police but was arrested without incident after a short foot pursuit.

21 year old male, Jesse TETREAU LT of Perth was wanted on outstanding charges for flight from peace officer (x 1) and numerous driving related provincial offences. The accused was later released from custody with conditions. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

Shoplifter facing charges after theft

On March 15th , 2025 at approximately 4:05 p.m. the Smiths Falls Police Service received a report for a theft of store merchandise at a local business. Members of the Smiths Falls Police responded and located the suspect at 4:16 p.m. on Lombard Street. The suspect was arrested without incident.

As a result of the investigation, 30 year old, Brian LARA Bl E stands charged with theft under $5000 (x 1) and failing to comply with their probation order (x 1). The accused was later released from custody with conditions. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice at a later date.

Another impaired river facing charges

On March 15th , 2025 just after 1:00 a.m. a member of Smiths Falls Police initiated a traffic stop in the downtown area. Upon further investigation there was reason to believe that the driver may be impaired by alcohol. A roadside alcohol screening test was conducted which the driver subsequently failed. The driver was arrested at the scene without incident.

As a result of the investigation 18 year old driver Conner GABRIEL was charged with operation while impaired (x 1), Operation while impaired -blood alcohol concentration level over 80mg (x 1), and multiple highway traffic act offences. The accused was later released from custody with conditions. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of justice at a later date.

Intimate partner violence investigation leads to arrest

On March 17th , 2025 members of the Smiths Falls police responded to a 9-1-1 call for a disturbance at a residence. Police arrived on scene and began their investigation.

As a result of the investigation a 35 year old female from Smiths Falls was arrested. The accused stands charged with forcible confinement (x 1), and Assault (x 2). The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

One arrested

On March 17th , 2025 the Smiths Falls Police Service received a report of a stolen vehicle in town. The investigation confirmed that the vehicle was taken without consent and SFPS had grounds to locate and charge the suspect.

On March 18th at 3:43 a.m. the Brockville Police Service advised SFPS that they had successfully recovered the stolen vehicle and have the suspect in their custody.

As a result of the investigation, 35 year old Briege LAM ING was charged with take motor vehicle without consent (x 1). The accused was released with conditions. The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth at a later date.

The charges in these matters have not been proven in court.
